Mahatma Gandhi called off the Civil Disobedience Movement in 1931 because of the Gandhi-Irwin Pact. Under this agreement, he accepted to suspend the movement and attend the Second Round Table Conference. He believed that after the pact, a political settlement through negotiation had become possible.

They help in the movement of army and military supplies during emergencies, strengthen national security, and promote economic development by improving connectivity in border regions.

Poor households are still dependent on informal sources of loans because they generally do not have easy access to banks and other formal financial institutions. They often lack collateral, income proof, and credit history. Formal loans also involve long procedures, while informal lenders give quick money without many formalities, though usually at very high interest rates.
